These safety tips
should be followed at all times. They will help to prevent
accidents, and they can also help extend the life of your
candles. General Candle Burning Tips:
- Never leave a burning candle
unattended!
- Keep your burning candles away from
children, pets, and flammable objects such as curtains,
walls, blinds and aerosol cans.
- Make sure your candle is on a flat,
non-flammable heat resistant surface.
|
- Keep your candle free of any wick trimmings
and other foreign matter. Debris in the melt pool will cause
smoking.
- You may develop a carbon buildup (mushrooming)
on your wick, extinguish the candle, and trim the wick to 1/4 inch.
This will eliminate smoking and lengthen the burn time of the
candle.
- Allow the candle to cool before trimming the
wick.
- Avoid walking with lit candles.
- Keep your candle out of direct sunlight to
avoid fading.
Container and Jar Candle Burning Tips:
- Always burn your container candle at least 1
hour per inch for each diameter of the container. For example, if
you have a 4" diameter candle container, you should burn it for at
least 4 hours before it is extinguished. Burning less time will
cause the candle to form a hole right down the center of your jar
and shorten the burn time of your candle.
- Do not allow your candle to burn completely
down to the bottom of container - container may crack or break.
Candle should be extinguished approximately 1/2 inch from the
bottom.
- For safety's sake, do not allow the flame to
touch the sides of the container. When the flame is in direct
contact with the glass, the container could break.
- Containers may become very hot. DO NOT attempt
to move until the container is cooled.
- Allow the candle to cool before replacing the
lid on the container.
- Hot candle containers can damage furniture.
Always place your candle container on a flat, nonflammable heat
resistant surface.
- All candles, especially highly scented ones,
will produce some smoke and soot, but proper burning techniques will
help eliminate this problem.
Votive Candle Tips:
- Votive candles are designed to liquefy into a
pool of wax and they should always be burned in a tight fitting
votive holder. A snug fit, in a flat-bottomed holder is recommended
to insure the proper burning time.
- If necessary, always remove the metal wick
clip and the bottom burn labels before adding a new votive to the
holder.
- Never burn the votive completely to the
bottom. Always leave 1/2" of un-melted wax. This will prevent the
wick from falling over to the side of the votive and causing any
possible breakage.
Problem Solving and All Around Helpful Tips:
- To remove wax from containers, place container
in a sink of hot water. This will loosen the wax and cause it to
pull away from the sides of the container.
- Rotate your candle if you see it is not
burning clean down the edge. A small draft could cause the candle
not to burn properly.
